Greeting from Dr. Lars-André Richter
Welcome to our homepage. We are very happy that you are interested in what the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) does and what it stands for.
FNF is a German independent non-profit organization, established in 1958. Our objective is to promote the values of liberty: individual freedom and responsibility, market economy, the rule of law and human rights. We spread these ideas through seminars, conferences and publications plus the analysis of current political trends. Today, after more than half a century of international activities, we have projects in about seventy countries worldwide.
Our activities in South Korea
We opened our Seoul office in 1987. The main topics of our work in the Republic of Korea are local autonomy and market economy, as well as regional security focusing on the Korean peninsula. We support the empowerment of local government, in cooperation with the Center for Local Autonomy (CLA), a research institute at the Hanyang University. As for the regional security issue we closely work with the Institute for Far Eastern Studies (IFES) of Kyungnam University and the Jeju Peace Institute (JPI), a working entity of the International Peace Foundation.
Our activities in North Korea
Furthermore, we promote dialogue between the two Koreas by bringing in the very unique German experience of national unification and European integration. Since 2002 we have been supporting the economic modernization and development within the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Our programs are aimed at transferring knowledge of the functioning of market economy, city management and renewable energy.
Our regional cooperation
Last not least our work has a regional dimension. With our partners in Asia we organize lectures and debates between representatives of liberal-minded think tanks and politicians in networks such as the “Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats "and the “Economic Freedom Network Asia”.
